Interventions are orchestrated confrontations with addicts, alcoholics, or others whose behavior or addictions affect those around them. They usually consist of friends and family and may include a professional interventionist. The goal of an intervention is to get a loved one to seek help, be it rehabilitation, one or more 12-step group, or other professional services which will help the subject to break the habits.
