Singer, songwriter, and actress Mariah Carey, born March 27, 1970 in Northport, New York. Her mother, a vocal coach and opera singer named Patricia, was of Irish descent and her father, an aeronautical engineer named Alfred, was an African-American of Venezuelan descent. Because of the social restrictions in the early 1960s, they eloped, and Patricia’s parents disowned her and had no relationship with Mariah. She recorded her first album in 1990, and its four singles which made number one helped it to go multi-platinum. In 1993, she married Columbia executive Tommy Mottola, who has guided her career over the previous three years. They remained married until 1997. She married comedian Nick Cannon in 2008, and their twins were born on April 30, 2011. They divorced in December of 2014. In 2016, she announced that she and Australian billionaire James Packer had become engaged.
