Born in Corning, Iowa, American comedian and television host Johnny Carson (October 23, 1925 - January 23, 2005) moved to Norfolk, Nebraska when he was eight. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was on en route to Japan when Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed. He was the host of “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” for more than thirty years. The show, which aired every weeknight and won countless awards, was first hosted by Steve Allen and then Jack Paar. After his 1992 retirement, Carson was replaced by Jay Leno, then briefly by Conan O’Brien, before Jay Leno got it again. He had been married four times and had three sons.
