Born in Hounslow, London on January 30, 1951, Phil Collins, who is best known as the drummer for the progressive rock group Genesis has also established himself as a songwriter, vocalist, and actor. At the age of five, he got a toy drum kit, and as he grew older, he upgraded to real drums. Having taught himself to read by playing along with the radio and television, he never learned to read music but instead uses a method which he devised. Phil is losing his hearing in one ear due to an infection. He has been married three times and has five children, including an adopted daughter from his first marriage.
