Tom Cruise, whose full name is Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, was born on July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York. He spent part of his childhood in Ottawa, Canada, until his mother left his father and moved with the children back to the U.S. His father died of cancer ten years later. Tom is a film actor as well as a producer. His first role was in the movie Taps in 1981. In 1983, he starred in Risky Business, and then such movies as Top Gun, Mission: Impossible, Jerry Maguire, Minority Report, and A Few Good Men. He is very active in Scientology.
