Born Robert Zimmerman on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota, singer, poet, and musician Bob Dylan was raised about 75 miles northwest of there in Hibbing. His father’s parents fled from Ukraine to the United States, and his mother’s parents immigrated from Lithuania. Dylan dropped out of college after his first year and moved to New York City in order to meet Woody Guthrie, who was dying of Huntington’s Disease. He was married twice and has six children. Raised Jewish, he converted to Christianity in the 1970s. For more than 20 years, he has been involved in Chabad, an Orthodox Jewish, Hasidic movement.
