Rapper Eminem, also sometimes called Slim Shady, was born Marshall Mathers III on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. His mother was 15 when she gave birth to him, and she nearly died during childbirth. His father left the family when Eminem was 18 months old, leaving the young single mother to raise the child on her own. They moved to numerous places in Missouri before settling in Detroit, Michigan. The prolific hip-hop singer has spent some time in drug rehab for addiction to Ambien. He has been sued over his lyrics by numerous people, including his mother, his aunt and uncle, and his ex-wife while they were still married.
