Born January 30, 1930, Eugene Allen Hackman, known as Gene Hackman, was born in San Bernardino, California. While he was growing up, his family moved around quite a bit, finally settling in Danville, Illinois, in the house which belonged to his mother’s mother. At the age of 16, Gene joined the Marine Corps. After his discharge, he bounced around from New York City to Pasadena and back, and worked off-roadway, and then film, working his way to an Oscar in 1972 for his role in The French Connection. He retired in 2004 and has co-written three historical fiction novels.
