Sara McLachlan was born and adopted in Halifax, on January 28, 1968. She began singing while she was still in school. She married her drummer, Ashwin Sood, in Regional/North-America/Caribbean-Islands/States/Jamaica/Jamaica in 1997, lost her mother to cancer in 2001, and gave birth to a daughter, India Ann Sushil Sood in 2002. She had her second daughter in 2007, and announced that she was divorcing Ashwin in 2008. She lives in Vancouver.
