George Ivan Morrison, known as Van Morrison, was born August 31, 1945 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He got his first acoustic guitar at the age of eleven and formed his first band, "The Sputniks," when he was twelve. By age 17, he had quit school and was touring Europe with a band. He lived in Belfast until 1967 when he moved to New York. He has been married twice and has three children. He and his wife live in Dublin, Ireland.
