Situated on the northern slopes of the South Downs, Petersfield is a civil parish and town in Hampshire, England. The market town was founded in the 12th century by William Fitz Robert, the 2nd Earl of Gloucester, and chartered in 1198 by John, Count of Mortain, who later became King John.
