The Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador is situated on the nation's Atlantic coast and is made up of the island of Newfoundland and Labrador on the mainland, northwest of Newfoundland. Formerly known as just Newfoundland, an amendment was made to the Constitution to change the name to its current only in December of 2001, though conversationally, people still refer to it the old way. The capital is St. John's.
