The representative democracy of Guatemala has had a very turbulent governmental situation since the first half of the 20th Century. The largest city, Guatemala City, serves as its capital, and the official languages of the nation are Spanish as well as twenty-two indigenous Mayan languages. Guatemala is bordered by Mexico to the north and west.
