Montgomery is the county seat of Montgomery County. It became Alabama's capital city in 1846 and became the first national capital of the Confederate States of America in 1861. Nearly 100 years later, it became the site of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery marches.
