The city of Selma is the county seat of Dallas County, Alabama. During the Civil War, it was one of the Confederate Army's important military manufacturing centers, making everything from supplies and ammunition to warships. It gained fame in the 1960s as one of the cities at the very center of the Civil Rights movement and it was the starting point for the three 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches.
