Fairbanks, Alsaks is the borough seat of the Fairbanks North Star Borough and one of Alaska's Home Rule cities. Founded in 1901, by a disgruntled man, E.T. Barnette, after he was put off a riverboat which could not pass through the ice. In an episode of what can only be called synchronicity, a prospector saw the smoke from the riverboat as it stopped to put him Barnette ashore, and a city was born.
