The capital of Alaska is known as Juneau, though its official name is the City and Borough of Juneau. It is a unified municipality and is only accessible by plane or by ferry. The city was known as Rockwell and as Harrisburg before it was finally named in honor of a gold prospector named Joe Juneau.
