Safford is the seat of Graham County, Arizona. The town was founded by by pioneers who came from Gila Bend in southwestern Arizona. Settled in 1874, the town was not incorporated as a town until 1901, becoming a city in 1955. It was named after Arizona Territorial Governor Anson P.K. Safford.
