Cypress, California, is in Orange County. It was first called Waterville, in honor of the Artesian wells which abounded in the area, but it was incorporated in 1956 as Dairy City, in the hopes that the name would deter developers who wanted to create residential tracts. It was officially given its current name in 1957, after the Cypress Elementary School, which was built in 1895, and which itself was named after the numerous cypress trees.
