Downey, a city in southeast Los Angeles County in California, was named for its founder, Civil War governor of California John Gately Downey. It was incorporated in 1956. It is home to the oldest McDonald’s restaurant, which is listed as a historic landmark and is also the first place to have a Taco Bell restaurant in 1962.
