The city of Hesperia, part of San Bernardino County in the Mojave Desert, is located east of the city of Los Angeles. It was originally part of the Rancho San Felipe, Las Flores y el Paso del Cajon in 1781. The United States annexed Southern California after the Mexican-American war in the 1840s and 1850s. The town was laid out in 1891, and it was named in honor of Hesperus, the Greek god of the west.
