Boulder is the county seat of Boulder County with an approximate population of 103,000 in the city and approximately 303,000 population in the county. Over 31,000 acres of nature preserves surround the city, and the Urban Wildlife Management Plan which sets policies for managing and protecting urban wildlife was created by the City of Boulder. A summer event called Bands on the Bricks features street musicians on Thursday nights from June through mid-August.
