Centennial, the tenth largest city in Colorado, was incorporated from portions of Arapahoe County in 2001. The city was incorporated in part to prevent Greenwood Village from annexing portions of Arapahoe County to improve its tax base, since the tax income from businesses in the unincorporated portion of the county funded the majority of its services.
