The town of Dillon was first settled at the place where three rivers came together. In the 1960s however, a reservoir - now known as Lake Dillon - was constructed, which necessitated the relocation of the town to the northeastern shore of the lake in 1963. Governmentally, Dillon is a Home Rule Municipality.
