Englewood's history goes back to 1858, when gold was discovered on what later came to be known as Little Dry Creek by William Green Russell, an early settler. Two years later, Thomas and Mary Skerritt, considered the city's founders, built a home there, which they called Orchard Place. Known as Englewood today, the city is a Home Rule Municipality, located in Arapahoe County, Colorado.
