A suburb of the City of Hartford, Avon is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut. Settled in 1645, Avon was initially a part of Farmington but became an independent town after being sold to the Puritans in a land charter granted by the Duke of York in 1830. Before it was broken off from Farmington, the settlement was known as Northington.
