Granby was part of a section of Massachusetts that seceded from the state in 1774, just before the Revolutionary War, becoming part of Connecticut, although it was under the jurisdiction of Simsbury at the time. In 1786, it seceded from Simsbury, to become an independent town. It is located in Hartford County, in the north-central part of the state.
