The land upon which the town of Davie was built was once mostly under water. Davie was founded by a group of settlers who had worked in the Panama Canal Zone; as a result, its original name was Zona. Randolph Davie, a developer, bought about 27,000 acres in the area and the town's name was changed to Davie.
