Walton Beach has been inhabited since sometime around 1100 AD, from evidence of mound building, pottery, and other artifacts that have been found there. Early settlers of Walton County were the first Europeans to establish permanent settlements in what is now Fort Walton Beach. Originally named "Anderson", it was renamed sometime around 1911.
