Founded in 1828, and named the county seat the following year, Marianna is in Jackson County, Florida. The city is home to Chipola College, which takes its name from the river that runs through the town. Marianna was the scene of a minor Civil War battle between a small Confederate home guard of about 150 and a Union contingent of about 900 troops.
