Incorporated in 1860, and named by a Western & Atlantic railroad engineer for his home town by that name in New Hampshire, Acworth is a city in Cobb County, Georgia. The city was known as Northcutt Station from 1840 to 1843, named after its first railroad station master and, prior to that, it was known as Andersonville. In 1864, the city was burned by Union troops under the command of General Sherman, sparing only a few homes. The city includes Acworth Beach, on Lake Allatoona and Lake Acworth.
