Dahlonega is the seat of Lumpkin County, Georgia. The city was established as a result of the Georgia Gold Rush in 1828, and became the site of a United States Mint branch between 1838 and 1861, when control passed to the Confederate Treasury Department. Today, the region features several vineyards and wineries.
