The Gwinnett County city of Norcross, Georgia is named in honor of Jonathan Norcross, the man known as the "Father of Atlanta." The railroad was slated to go through Norcross in 1856, construction was delayed due to the Civil War. the town was chartered in 1870, and construction of the first 20 miles of tracks was completed in 1889.
