The county seat of Idaho's Madison County is the city of Rexburg, and began with a small academy in 1888, by Thomas Ricks, a Mormon pioneer and founder of the city, The school was later called Ricks Academy and eventually Ricks College. It is now Brigham Young University-Idaho. The city was named in his honor and was first known as Ricksburg.
