Elmhurst, Illinois, is in DuPage and Cook Counties. The first Europeans settled along the Salt Creek in 1836 and called the community "Cottage Hill" when it was officially founded in 1845. It was renamed Elmhurst in 1869 and incorporated as a village in 1882.
