Tinley Park is located mostly in Cook County, with a small portion of the village in Will County, Illinois. Settlement of the area began in the 1830s, around the same time that Chicago was founded. As the original inhabitants of the new settlement were German, the town was first known as Bremen, changed to Tinley Park in 1890 in honor of the village's first railroad agent, Samuel Tinley, Sr.
