The area that is now Westchester was inhabited by German farmers as far back as the mid-19th century. In 1924, Samuel Insull purchased the land with the intention of creating a town, which is why the name of the town and most of its street names are of English, rather than German origin. Westchester is a village in Cook County, Illinois.
