Originally a French trading post, French Lick is a small town in Orange County, Indiana. Although the town was founded in 1857, a fortified ranger post was established there in 1811, and a settlement known as "Salt Spring" was there in 1835. Because of its sulfur springs, French Lick was known as a spa town during the latter half of the 19th century; and in the early 20th century, its casinos attracted celebrities and others to the town.
