Goshen, the home of Goshen College, is the seat of Elkhart County, and located within the northern Indiana region known as Michiana. The Elkhart River, as well as Rock Run Creek, run through the city, and a dam on the south side creates Goshen Dam Pond. The city is known as the "Maple City" because of its many maple trees. The city's roots lead back to the Amish and Mennonite families who settled the area in 1831, and remain in the area.
