The town of Carrollton, Kentucky, is the county seat of Carroll County at the confluence of the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers. Founded in 1794 as Port William, it was the county seat of Gallatin County. In 1838, that county was split, creating Carroll County, and at that time the town was renamed and made the seat of the new county.
