In 1649, Lord Baltimore of England granted 80,000 acres to Richard Snowden I, who established plantations on it, growing mostly tobacco. In the 18th century, stagecoaches regularly traveled Post Road traveling between Baltimore and Washington. In 1783, a stage line was founded there and passengers sp0ent the night during the 36-hour stagecoach ride.
