Bethesda is a community in Montgomery County, Maryland. It was a small community throughout the 19th century, consisting of a post office, church school, and blacksmith. When the streetcar line came through in the early 20th century, it began to boom. It was named for the Bethesda Presbyterian Church which was built in 1820.
