Pocomoke City, Maryland is in Worcester County and is nicknamed “the Friendliest Town on the Eastern Shore.” It was first settled in the late 1600s and called Stevens Landing or Stevens Ferry on the south banks of the Pocomoke River. In 1865, it was incorporated is Newton or “New Town” and was re-incorporated in 1878 as Pocomoke City, the word “Pocomoke” meaning “black water.”
