Schools and educational programs, of all types and levels, in Inkster, are appropriate for this category, including childcare centers and preschools, K-12 schools, homeschooling, and tutoring programs, as well as vocational schools, colleges, and universities. Specialized instruction programs, such as art, dance, drama, and music instruction, driver's training programs, and others. Of course, not all of these are to be found in Inkster, at least not at this time.

Prior to 2013, most K-12 students within the city attended campuses within the Inkster Public Schools District, which served most of Inkster and a portion of Westland. However, following several years of declining enrollment, the district had a $12 million deficit. While the district proposed converting Inkster High School into a charter school, and operating only its K-8 schools directly, this plan was rejected by the state, dissolving the district.

Portions of the former Inkster Public Schools District are now within the Wayne-Westland Community Schools, Westwood Community Schools, Taylor School District, and Romulus School District. Westwood operates Daly Elementary School and Tomlinson Middle School in Inkster, while Wayne-Westland operates David Hicks Elementary School in Inkster. The former Baylor-Woodson Elementary School in Inkster now houses the Burger Baylor School for Students with Autism.

Other schools in Inkster include the Peterson Warren Academy, a K-12th-grade Seventh-day Adventist school that has been in operation for more than fifty years, and Inkster Preparatory Academy, a K-7th-grade charter school.
