The city of Becker, Minnesota is situated between the Mississippi River and Elk River in Sherburne County. Served by US Highway 10 and Minnesota Highway 25, Becker is forty-six miles northwest of Minneapolis and nineteen miles southeast of St. Cloud. Nearby communities include Albertville, Annandale, Bailey, Big Lake, Clearwater, Enfield, Hasty, Monticello, Orrock, Otsego, Saint Augusta, Salida, South Haven, and Zimmerman. Settlers began coming to the area in the mid-1850s, originally calling the area Pleasant Valley. A Pleasant Valley post office was established in 1866, to be replaced by the Becker post office in 1870. The railroad came through the area in 1867, and Becker Township was organized in 1871. The town was platted in 1867 and named for George Loomis Becker, a state legislator, and Becker was incorporated as a city in 1901.
