Completely surrounded by the city of Lino Lakes, Centerville is a city in Anoka County, Minnesota. Other nearby communities include Circle Pines, Dellwood, Hugo, Lexington, and White Bear Beach. Before European-Americans came to the area in the early 1800s, the land was inhabited by the Dakotas during the 1600s and 1700s, although evidence points to it having been inhabited only during the wild rice harvest by the late 1700s. During the early 1800s, trappers and hunters began to come into the area, and the first house in the area that was to become Centerville was built by F.W. Traves in 1850, and families from Canada soon followed, and a town was platted in 1854. Its name was chosen for its central location from St. Paul, Stillwater, and Anoka. Centerville was incorporated as a city in 1857, while Minnesota was still a territory.
