Located in Hennepin County, Champlin, Minnesota, is located on the banks of the Mississippi River. It was named in honor of a navy Commodore named Stephen Champlin who took part in the 1812 war against England and Canada and had a hand in the establishment of the boundary between Canada and the United States. He committed suicide shortly after the town took his name, by hanging himself in an orange tree. There is still a memorial on that location.
