Clear Lake, Minnesota is located in Sherburne County, about thirteen miles southeast of St. Cloud and twenty-four miles northwest of Elk River. US Highway 10 and Minnesota Highway 24 are the main routes to and from the city. Other nearby communities include Becker, Big Lake, Cable, Clearwater, Enfield, Hasty, Kimball, Luxemburg, Marty, Monticello, Orrock, Pleasant Lake, St. Augusta, Santiago, Salida, Silver Creek, and Waite Park. Minneapolis is about sixty miles southeast of Clear Lake. Clear Lake Township was settled around 1850, and organized in 1858, while the city of Clear Lake was founded as a station of the Great Northern Railway and the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1867. Both the city and township were named for a lake within the township. The post office was established in 1853, while the area was still part of Benton County. Its name was changed to Benton in 1856, then back to Clear Lake. The city was platted in 1879, and incorporated as a village in 1900.
