Hendricks is in Lincoln County, in southwestern Minnesota. The chief routes through the city are Minnesota Highway 271 and County Road 17, while Minnesota Highway 19 is nearby. Lake Hendricks, a large body of water in southwestern Hendricks, extends into South Dakota. Nearby communities include Arco, Ivanhoe and Wilno, in Minnesota, as well as the South Dakota localities of Astoria and White. Marshall, Minnesota is about thirty-five miles east, and Watertown, South Dakota is fifty miles northwest of Hendricks. A post office has been in operation in Hendricks since 1884, and the town was named for Thomas A. Hendricks, the 21st Vice President of the United States. Hendricks is on the northern edge of the Buffalo Ridge Wind Farm, one of the largest in the United States. The city’s population has hovered around seven hundred since 1920, with minor increases and decreases from one census year to the next.
