Hoffman, Minnesota is situated along the Chippewa River in Grant County. The community was founded in 1886 when the railroad came through the area, platted in 1887 and named for Robert C. Hoffman, a railroad official. A post office was established in 1887, and Hoffman was incorporated as a city in 1891. The city is served by Minnesota Highways 27 and 55, southeast of Barrett and northwest of Kensington and Farwell. Other nearby communities include Brandon, Donnelly, Erdahl, Herman, Holmes City, and Norcross. Fergus Falls is about forty miles north-northwest of Hoffman.
